Giuseppe (Joe) Macri, 82, passed away Thursday, August 11th, 2016 in his home in Rutherford Heights, Harrisburg, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in San Nicola da Crissa, Calabria, Italy on December 18th, 1933, a son of the late Pasquale and Cecelia (Galloro) Macri. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and to the United States on Valentine’s Day 1956. He worked as a mechanic for Hall’s Motor Transit Company for more than a decade and The Central Dauphin School District as a school bus mechanic for 10 years. A skilled craftsman of many trades, Giuseppe built his family home in Rutherford Heights and spent countless hours in his garage maintaining the automobiles of his family and friends.
He retired in 1997 to devote himself to his flourishing garden, bocce ball, card games with friends, playing with his grandchildren and doting on his loving wife of 61 years, Nicolina Macri, whom he is survived by along with his sisters Marianna and Catarina, daughter Mattea, son Pasquale and his wife Jamie, his four grandchildren John (wife Katie), Allen (wife Alissa), Giuseppe and Nicholas, four great-grandchildren Kayla, Alexa, JoAnn, Avery and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Cecelia and son Stefano.
A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m) Monday at Dailey Funeral Home, 650 S. 28th St, Harrisburg, PA 17103. Giuseppe is a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of St. Catherine Laboure Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg, PA 17111, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Father Neil Sullivan officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, West Hanover Township, PA 17112. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Catherine Laboure Church or St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1439 Market St, Harrisburg, PA 17103.
