Aung Thin Obituary

Joseph Aung Thin, age 86, of Harrisburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Harrisburg Hospital.

Joseph was born on July 7, 1940, in Danlin Township, Yangon, Burma, the youngest son of Chen Sweet Shaung and Wang Yin Lan. He grew up in Yangon with his older brother. Joseph experienced the loss of his mother at a young age and helped his father in the family restaurant business, learning the values of hard work, dedication, and community.

After the early passing of his mother, Joseph continued his education and eventually took over his father’s restaurant, serving the local community with pride. At age 30, Joseph won Myanmar’s largest lottery prize of 100,000 kyats, a memorable milestone in his life.

On June 29, 1963, Joseph married Mary Rose Tin Win, his beloved wife of over six decades. Together they raised five children — one son and four daughters. The family endured the heartbreaking loss of their son, Peter Aung Lin, who passed away in 1998 from liver disease.

Joseph retired and closed his restaurant in 2008. In 2009, he and his wife moved to the United States to be closer to family. Joseph was known for his gentle spirit, his love of family, and his warm hospitality. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones and was a loyal and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Rose Tin Win; four daughters; two sons-in-law; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joseph’s legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion to family will be cherished by all who knew him.
