Rosemary F. McLaughlin Obituary

Rosemary McLaughlin, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026, in Mechanicsburg, PA.

She was married to the late James (Jim) McLaughlin Jr. for over 65 years, and is survived by their three children and their spouses, James "Jim" McLaughlin III (Sheri) of New Cumberland, Anne Otto (Steve) of Dauphin and Michael McLaughlin (Hannah) of Mechanicsburg.

Born on February 2, 1931 in Locust Gap, PA, Rosemary was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Mahoney) Carey. She was a resident of Colonial Park in Harrisburg, PA, for over 65 years.

Rosemary worked as a tax examiner for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for twenty years. She was a devoted member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Harrisburg, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and president of the Council of Catholic Women.

Rosemary was a seasoned traveler, but returned to her favorite place in the world, Ireland, nine times. She loved hosting-often until sunrise kicking out her guests before heading to Mass, cooking comforting meals for loved ones, volunteering alongside her husband, and cheering for old Notre Dame. Following the passing of her husband, Rosemary moved to Country Meadows, filling her daily schedule with every activity offered, from chorus practice to baking for veterans, playing games with her neighbors and, leading a weekly rosary prayer group she created for the residents.

She will be remembered as a great wife, mother, nana, and friend. A cook who needed no recipe, a storyteller who could erupt any room with laughter, and a believer who made the best out of every situation, with a little luck of the Irish.

Rosemary is also survived by her four loving grandchildren and their partners; Hannah McLaughlin (Ian), Jacob McLaughlin (Jenna), Carey McLaughlin (Calvin) and Joshua McLaughlin (Julia). In addition to her husband, Rosemary is preceded in death by her brother Robert (Bobby) Carey.

A special thanks is offered for the care and compassion given to Rosemary by the Country Meadows staff.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
