Obituary of Joan A. Sandherr

Joan A. Sandherr, of Mechanicsburg passed away peacefully on March 26. She was born in Hazleton on August 26, 1930, the daughter of Edward G. and Catherine Roberts Sandherr and the twin sister of Jean M. Sandherr. Joan spent the vast majority of her life in the Harrisburg area. Her early education was spent at the parish school of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, where she worshipped for most of the remainder of her life and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School and upon graduation, began a 35 year career with the Bell Telephone Company, retiring as a customer service manager. From a young age, Joan and her twin sister Jean took dance lessons and enjoyed performing and competing in local and regional talent shows throughout their youth. Their specialty was tap dancing and they once appeared as contestants on the Major Bowes Amateur Hour. Late in life, Joan rekindled her love of tap dancing by taking lessons and performing in local revues. Following the death of her twin sister and best friend, Joan became active in Twinless Twins, a support group for twins who survive their sibling. Joan enjoyed travel, friends and family, and a tall glass of chardonnay. Along with her twin sister, Joan was predeceased by her parents, her older brother, Richard Sandherr, two great nieces and one great nephew. She is survived by her younger brother John Sandherr of Harrisburg, eleven nieces and nephews, 16 grand nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews. The family will receive guests on Tuesday April 3 from 10:30 - 11:30 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 25th and Berryhill Streets. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow with interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in her name to Bishop McDevitt High School, One Crusader Way, Harrisburg, PA 17111. The family also acknowledges with appreciation the tender and attentive care rendered to Joan in her last days by the doctors, nurses and staff of UPMC Pinnacle Health Community Osteopathic Hospital.
