Obituary of John M. Dwyer
John Michael Dwyer, 86 of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born April 4, 1929 in Ayer Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Dwyer of Ayer Massachusetts. Surviving him are his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia Jane Dwyer, two daughters, Ellen Dwyer, Maryann Schoon, four grandchildren, Kerry wife of David Steussie , Adam and wife Kristen Parys, Andrew DeCosta, Abbie Schoon, 3 great grandchildren, a niece Linda wife of David Claytor and a great nephew Patrick Claytor. John was a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force in World War II and the Korean War with the Strategic Air Command in the Europe and Pacific Theatres of operation. After his military service John worked for the Department of Navy and Department of Air Force. John retired from the Navy Ships Parts Control Center on January 1992 with forty years of federal service. John was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, A life member of the National Association of Retired and Federal Employees Organization (NARFE); where he served as President of (NARFE); Harrisburg Chapter 102 and the District II vice President for the State of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Veterans Advisory Committee.
John was a member of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 26 years. He was a member of the Golden Years at Saint Margaret Mary Church. A viewing will be held from 11 to 12:00 P.M. in Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Church on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated following the viewing with Fr. Paul C. Helwig officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow Mass at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
