Obituary of John P. Durborow

John P. Durborow, 66, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania passed peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on May 6, 2020. John was born on March 9, 1954 to Joseph Durborow and Ann Corcoran Durborow in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School. After high school, John went on to work as a locomotive engineer, with 41 years of service on freight and passenger lines, ending his career as an Amtrak engineer with runs between Harrisburg and Philadelphia. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the first permanent trade organization for railroad workers in the US. John is survived by his loving wife Claire E. Durborow as well as his daughter Erika Durborow, his son Jason Durborow, stepdaughters Amy Damdin, (Batbayar) and Rhonda Saylor (Jason), sisters Nancy Durborow (Matthew), MaryJo Durborow (Thomas), Margaret/Peggy Reagan (Patrick), and Kathryn Mannino, 12 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. John loved his work, but also had many hobbies. A member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 122, John owned a Home Built Corbin Baby Ace. He also enjoyed flying and was pursuing his pilot's license. John's hobbies included playing his guitar, listening to music, and performing World War II research about two of his father's brothers who lost their lives in the war. John is a mentioned editor in "An Emotional Gauntlet," a WWII book mentioning his uncles. His research is also being used in an upcoming book "Brothers in Arms" about brothers who are buried together in military cemeteries In Europe. John also loved the outdoors, even taking part in a mountain climbing expedition on Mt. Baker, WA. However, above all, John was a loving husband and family man who adored his children and grandchildren. He will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him.
