Obituary of Marguerite M. MacDonald

Marguerite "Margie" (Valero) MacDonald, 71, of Harrisburg passed away peacefully at her home Friday, April 10th, surrounded by her loving family. Marguerite was born in Queens, NY, on February 11, 1949, daughter of the late Raul Valero and Mary (Torres) Caplano. Marguerite began her career in health care outreach and mental health counseling. She then worked at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) for twenty-six years in different capacities and retired as Director of the Office for Academic Success in 2016. She received a Master of Human Services from Lincoln University. Marguerite served as a Board Member of Leadership Harrisburg and the Holy Spirit Medical Group Board of Directors. She was also on the executive board of the National Organization of Student Success. Marguerite was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Church, where she also participated in the Council of Catholic Women and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Marguerite was an avid reader and passionate about knitting and travel. Marguerite is survived by her husband, Roy R. MacDonald. Her children, Christopher Twohig of Raleigh, NC; Erin Twohig-Canal and her husband Clint Canal, of Atlanta, GA; Meggan MacDonald of State College; and Justin MacDonald and his wife Megan (née Pauley) MacDonald of Arlington, VA. She adored her two grandchildren, Chase Schiffhauer and Mira Canal. Marguerite is also survived by her sisters, Debbie Manis of Eustis, FL and Linda Hanby of Charlotte, North Carolina as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania or the HACC Foundation. A private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Township.
