Obituary of Thomas O. Nissley

Thomas O. Nissley, 70, of Harrisburg, passed away February 5, 2015 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne Garner Nissley and his parents Joseph and Miriam Nissley. A graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, he continued his education at Bucknell University. After graduation he earned his Masters of Education at Millersville University and Principal Certification at Marywood University. Upon college graduation he began his teaching career at his alma mater, Bishop McDevitt High School. After 24 years of service in the History Department, he continued his career for 15 more years as principal at Holy Name of Jesus School. Thomas was a loyal parishioner at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church in Harrisburg and was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his four daughters, Anna of Harrisburg, Kristin Shillingsford and her husband Andy of New Cumberland, Jane of Harrisburg, Elizabeth Goodhart and her husband Ben of Harrisburg, his brother John (Jack) Nissley and his wife Mary of Harrisburg and five grandchildren; Victoria and Andrew Shillingsford, and Abigail, Mary, and Thomas Goodhart. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, 2800 Paxton Church Road, Harrisburg. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bishop McDevitt High School, Advancement Office, 1 Crusader Way, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
