Obituary of William E. Waltz Sr.
William E. Waltz Sr. passed away on Friday, June 17th at the age of 79 after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was born on October 25, 1942, in Harrisburg. Bill was the oldest son of Thomas Waltz (Dolores) and Hazel Miller. He graduated from Susquehanna High School and spent his time in Harrisburg and Halifax at his beloved fishing cottage, Webfoot, on the Susquehanna River.
After high school, Bill attended the University of Delaware Fire Extension Service. He served 23 years in the Paxtonia Fire Company where he served as chief or assistant chief for 14 of the years. Bill was ahead of his time in seeing the need for aerial fire apparatus and convinced the township of its need.
Bill´s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and motorcycling. Bill enjoyed deer, bear, and duck hunting. Many of his hunting adventures occurred at Lucky Leep Hunting Club in Clinton County where he enjoyed many adventures with his close friend Ed Freed. He made many of his own duck boats and was a founding member of the Susquehanna River Waterfowlers. Bill was also a member of the NRA, Bass Masters, life member and Sergeant of Arms of South-Central Vulcan Riders association, and a 32 Degree Mason. He was an accomplished dancer and successfully competed in the 1998 UCWDC Worlds and he loved dancing with all the ladies.
Bill is survived by his wife Veda Waltz, sons William E Waltz Jr. (Beverly) and Keith Waltz (Tammy Ball), stepson Moses Lipshaw (Heather), grandsons Stephen and David Waltz, sister Anita Miller, brother Thomas Waltz (Denise) and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother Larry Waltz and his sister Sandy Borders.
In lieu of a funeral service, Bill would like his ashes spread at the cottage on the Susquehanna River and at Lucky Leep. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2022, at 1:00PM at Bill’s favorite place; if you knew Bill, you know where it is. His wife Veda invites all who attend to light refreshments afterwards.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bill Waltz’s name may be made to the Brotherhood of Jungle Cock Maryland Chapter Scholarship fund, care of Craig Simms, 6310 Howard Lane, Elk Ridge MD, 21075-5601. Donations in memory of Bill can be made to the New Bloomfield Fire Department, 23 W High St, New Bloomfield, PA 17068.
