James J. McLaughlin, Jr., 93, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2023 at Greenridge Village in Newville, PA.
Born on June 13, 1929, in Elizabethtown, PA., James (known to most as Jim) was the son of James and Mary (Chapman) McLaughlin. He was a resident of Colonial Park in Harrisburg for over 65 years until he moved to New Cumberland.
James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosemary McLaughlin, and their three children and spouses - James "Jim" McLaughlin III (Sheri) of New Cumberland, Anne Otto (Steve) of Dauphin and Michael McLaughlin (Hannah) of Mechanicsburg.
James was a US Army Veteran who was stationed throughout Europe during the Korean War. After his service, he attended Thompson Institute for business while working at the former Olmsted Air Force Base. He retired from the Navy Depot, where he spent a portion of his career traveling to Asia and Europe.
He was a devoted member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Harrisburg, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 869 and American Legion #370. He enjoyed traveling to Ireland, gardening, fishing and cheering on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. For the last several years, James and his wife Rosemary lived with their son Jim and daughter-in-law Sheri in New Cumberland.
In addition to his wife and children, he is also survived by his four grandchildren and their partners; Hannah McLaughlin (Ian), Jacob McLaughlin, Carey McLaughlin (Calvin) and Joshua McLaughlin (Julia), and his three sisters Mary Barr of Elizabethtown, Isabella Knapp of Harrisburg and Ruth Welsh of Lancaster.
