Marie V. Nelson died at home on Sep 24, 2023 in the embrace of her husband Tom, children: Eric, Caitlin and their spouses, Lauren and Seth. Marie was born November 22, 1953 the daughter of the late Tom and Bernadette Kirk of Pottsville,PA. Marie is survived by her cherished grandchildren, Owen and Everly, her sister Ann and husband Lynn and sister Bernadette along with nieces and nephews. Marie is predeceased by our infant daughter Kathleen. Marie is mourned by close friends and relatives. Services will be held at Dailey funeral home in Penbrook at 10 a.m. Oct 5, 2023. A private interment will be held at the discretion of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the organization of one's choice. Life of Marie V. Nelson Marie grew up in Pottsville, PA where she attended St. Patrick’s school and graduated from Nativity High School. Later she graduated from McCann School of Business and went to work for the CIA in Washington D.C. For our entire married life of 43 years she meticulously shredded documents according to CIA protocols. When asked a vexing question, Marie would respond:” I am not authorized to comment on sensitive matters.” She would then refer our family to a CIA manual. Consequently our children never knew where their Christmas presents were stored. Caitlin and Eric knew presents and other items were in vaults protected by the CIA. Marie’s employment with the CIA terminated at her request because of multiple unsavory episodes including a murder near Langley Headquarters. A friend of Marie’s didn’t return to work one morning, and Marie decamped abruptly to the quiet life of Pottsville. Where she worked for many years as an accountant for Argo clothing company. When we married, Marie worked for a few years and later devoted her life to raising Eric and Caitlin. Marie loved all word games, reading and Broadway musicals. She watched daily national and local news. She maintained scrupulous financial records that kept our family solvent through every national economic crisis. During my 40 years of teaching, Marie kept my gradebooks in order as if they were sacred documents. She had my students' names memorized and would comment “Does this student need extra credit?” Marie protected our records and trained me in finances as she became blind over two years ago from the severe, progressive assault of Ankylosing Spondylitis. Marie’s friend, Jessie, programmed a voice controlled phone that increased Marie’s contact with her precious friends. With bravery, Marie anticipated a complex eye operation of four hours on a DaVinci bed with noted specialists that restored her sight just two months ago. Eagerly Marie embraced our grandchildren whom she could finally see after only being able to perceive them through voice and touch. Owen and Everly were the immense joy of Marie’s life. She loved preparing Christmas, Easter and birthday events for them. Now Marie’s protective presence will hover over them and us her family and beloved friends.
