Vito Garisto Obituary

Vito Garisto, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at home. He was born on August 1, 1936, in San Nicola Da Crissa, Italy to Bruno Garisto and Maria Rosaria Galati. Vito arrived in the United States in 1955, where he met and married the love of his life, Valerie (Camplese). He was immensely proud of the life they built together for their family.


Vito is survived by Valerie, his loving wife of 62 years. Also surviving are his daughters Maria Swift (Robert) of Audubon, PA, Anna Waigand (Gregg) of Atlanta, GA and his daughter in law Carolyn Garisto of Lemoyne, PA. He was especially proud of his grandchildren Adam and Maura Swift, Nick (Lucey) and Katie Garisto, Colin and Luke Waigand. Vito is predeceased by his beloved son Bruno V. Garisto, his parents and all four siblings.


Vito worked for the Pennsylvania State Police, retiring after 20 years. Prior to that, he managed The White Whale and owned VNG Restaurant with his brothers in law. Vito rarely rested in retirement. He was always found working in his yard and tending his garden. He enjoyed anything that had him outside. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He was so proud of each of them.


Visitation will be held on June 14th, 2024, at St. Catherine Labouré Catholic Church, Shrine of the Miraculous Medal starting at 10:00AM. Mass will begin at 11:00AM, with a burial at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following.


In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to Saint Catherine Labouré Parish, 4000 Derry Street Harrisburg PA 17111
