Donald "Donnie" Koons, 85, of Harrisburg was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on October 2, 2024. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. Born on April 6, 1939, he was the son of the late Norman and Emma (Reidell) Koons.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, surprising his grandchildren with treats, going to carnivals & outdoor concerts with his beautiful wife, indulging in a smorgasbord, and sharing a laugh or telling a story to everyone he met. He loved The Lord and was a member of Mt. Laurel Church of God and Legacy Faith Church for many years.
More than anything he was a devoted husband, caring father, loving grandfather, doting great-grandfather, loyal brother, and kind friend. He is survived by his daughter, Emily (Andy) Peterson; granddaughter, Bryanna (Evan) Schoffstall; great-granddaughter, Sienna Schoffstall; son, Don (Deb) Koons; grandchildren, Alicia (E.C.) Crankfield and John (Ashley) Krell; great-grandchildren, Erick (Zhane), Anthony, and Trinity Crankfield, and Avery and Michael Krell; great-great-granddaughters, Zurielle and Evelyn Crankfield; son, Chad (Raychel) Koons; grandchildren, Emma and Jackson Koons; sister, Annetta Rexrode; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Mildred “Millie” Koons; grandson, Robby Krell; siblings, Marian Cassel, George Koons, Helen Pletz, Mary Mumma, Betty Houck, Eleanor Cline, and Norma Shelahamer.
A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 with a visitation at 11am and a memorial service to follow at 12pm at Mt. Laurel Church of God, 1295 Piketown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
